The anti-gp210 antibody blood test is a specialised autoantibody assay used to support the diagnosis and risk stratification of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), a chronic autoimmune liver disease characterised by progressive destruction of the small intrahepatic bile ducts. This test is most useful for patients with suspected or confirmed PBC, particularly those who are antimitochondrial antibody (AMA) negative, and for clinicians seeking additional prognostic information to guide monitoring and treatment decisions.
The test detects antibodies directed against the nuclear pore complex protein gp210, a highly specific serological marker for PBC. Anti-gp210 antibodies are found in approximately 10 to 30 percent of people with PBC and are strongly associated with a more severe disease course, including a higher risk of ductopenia, cirrhosis, and liver-related complications. Testing is performed using an immunoassay method, typically enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) or an equivalent validated platform, on a simple blood sample.
