Bone Health Panel
A complete check of your bone health and mineral balance.
This panel provides a broad assessment of your bone health, looking at the key minerals, vitamins, and proteins involved in keeping your bones strong, alongside markers of bone turnover and kidney function. Because bone health depends on a balance of several nutrients and body systems, measuring these together gives a fuller picture than any single test alone.
Bone minerals and vitamins
- Calcium (Ca): the main mineral in bone, essential for strength and structure
- Phosphate (P): works closely with calcium to build and maintain bone
- Vitamin D (25-OH): helps the body absorb calcium and is vital for healthy bones. Low levels are common and can weaken bones over time
Bone activity markers
- Alkaline phosphatase (ALP): an enzyme linked to bone formation, often raised when bone activity is increased
- Osteocalcin (OC): a protein produced by bone-building cells, used as a marker of bone formation and turnover
Supporting markers
- Albumin (ALB) and globulin (GLO): proteins that influence how calcium is carried in the blood, helping put your calcium result in context
- Sodium (Na) and potassium (K): key electrolytes that reflect your body's overall mineral balance
- Urea and creatinine (CRE): markers of kidney function, important because the kidneys play a central role in regulating calcium, phosphate, and vitamin D
Why it matters
Bone loss often happens silently, with no symptoms until a fracture occurs. This panel helps you understand the factors that affect your bone strength, identify issues such as vitamin D deficiency or mineral imbalance early, and support the health of your bones as you age.
- Albumin (ALB)
- Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)
- Calcium (Ca), serum
- Creatinine (CRE)
- Globulin (GLO)
- Phosphate (P)
- Potassium (K)
- Sodium (Na)
- Urea
- Vitamin D (25-OH)
- Osteocalcin (OC)
No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or Consultant.
Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
