Cardiac Profile - Basic
A complete picture of your heart in one appointment.
This profile provides a broad assessment of your heart health, bringing together a range of tests linked to cardiovascular risk and heart function in a single appointment. Rather than looking at one factor in isolation, it combines blood results with physical measurements to build a fuller picture of the factors that affect your heart.
Heart-specific markers
- Cardiac troponin: a highly specific marker of heart muscle damage, raised when the heart muscle has been under strain or injured
- Creatine kinase (CK): an enzyme released when muscle, including heart muscle, is damaged
- Aspartate aminotransferase (AST): an enzyme that can rise with heart or liver stress
Cardiovascular risk factors
- Cholesterol profile (8 markers): a full breakdown of your cholesterol and related fats, a major factor in heart disease risk
- Glucose: raised blood sugar is an important risk factor for cardiovascular disease
- BMI and blood pressure: key physical measures of cardiovascular health and risk
Supporting health markers
- Full Blood Count (20 markers): assesses your red and white blood cells and platelets, giving a general picture of your overall health and conditions such as anaemia that can affect the heart
- Kidney markers (urea, creatinine, and eGFR): the kidneys and heart are closely linked, and kidney function is an important part of assessing cardiovascular health
Why it matters
Heart disease often develops quietly over many years, with few warning signs until a problem occurs. This profile helps you understand your personal risk factors, identify issues such as raised cholesterol, high blood pressure, or blood sugar early, and take steps to protect your long-term heart health.
- Full Blood Count (FBC)
- Cholesterol Profile
- Cardiac troponin
- Creatine kinase (CK)
- Aspartate aminotransferase (AST)
- Glucose (GLU)
- Urea
- Creatinine (CRE)
- eGFR
- BMI and blood pressure
No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or Consultant.
Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
