CKMB (Creatine Kinase-MB)

Creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB) is a cardiac enzyme test used to detect and monitor injury to the heart muscle. It is most commonly requested when a patient presents with chest pain, pressure, or other symptoms suggestive of a heart attack (myocardial infarction), and it may also be used to monitor for further cardiac damage after a known event or following cardiac procedures. Because CK-MB is found predominantly in heart muscle, a rise in its level can indicate that cardiac tissue has been damaged.

The test is performed on a simple blood sample, with the CK-MB level measured using a quantitative immunoassay technique. Results are typically interpreted alongside other cardiac markers, the patient's symptoms, and an electrocardiogram (ECG) to build a complete clinical picture.
