Diabetes Profile
Screen your blood sugar control and diabetes risk in one panel.
This profile provides a rounded assessment for people with diabetes, or those at risk of it, looking not only at blood sugar control but also at some of the areas of the body that diabetes can affect over time. Alongside checking your blood sugar, it assesses your kidneys, cholesterol, and other markers that are important for managing diabetes and reducing the risk of complications.
Blood sugar control
- HbA1c: the main marker of long-term blood sugar control, reflecting your average blood sugar over the past two to three months
- Glucose: measures your blood sugar level at the time of the test
Kidney health
The kidneys are one of the organs most affected by diabetes over time, so monitoring them is an important part of diabetes care:
- Creatinine and urea: core markers of how well your kidneys are filtering waste from the blood
- Albumin: checks for protein that can appear when the kidneys are under strain, an early sign of diabetes-related kidney changes
- Urine analysis: checks the urine for signs such as sugar, protein, or other changes relevant to diabetes and kidney health
Cardiovascular and metabolic health
People with diabetes are at higher risk of heart and circulatory problems, so these markers help assess and manage that risk:
- Lipid profile (total, HDL, and LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, non-HDL, and ratios): a full breakdown of the fats in your blood, a major factor in cardiovascular risk
- Uric acid: often raised in people with diabetes and metabolic conditions, and linked to gout and kidney health
Why it matters
Managing diabetes well is about more than blood sugar alone. Because diabetes can affect the kidneys, heart, and circulation over time, this profile helps you and your doctor keep an eye on these areas together, supporting good control, earlier detection of any complications, and more informed day-to-day management. Any abnormal results should be discussed with your GP or diabetes team.
