Individual Allergen - MICROORGANISMS

This test allows you to check for a specific allergy (IgE) response to individual moulds, yeasts, and fungi. These microorganisms are found widely in the environment, both indoors and outdoors, and their spores can trigger allergy symptoms such as sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, itchy eyes, and in some people asthma symptoms. Mould allergy can occur year-round, and may worsen in damp environments or during certain seasons. You can select the individual allergens you wish to test for from the list below.

An important note on interpretation

This test measures the allergy (IgE) antibody response to a substance. A positive result indicates sensitisation, meaning your immune system has produced antibodies, but it is always interpreted alongside your symptoms and their timing. A positive result that matches your symptoms is more meaningful than one on its own, as some people are sensitised without troublesome symptoms. Some moulds are related and can cross-react. Any results are best discussed with your GP or an allergy specialist, who can consider them alongside your history and advise on treatment.

Why it matters

Moulds and fungi are a common but often overlooked cause of allergy, particularly indoors and in damp conditions. Identifying which you react to can help confirm the cause of your symptoms and guide management, from reducing exposure and addressing damp in the home to appropriate medication. No special preparation required.

For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
