Individual Allergen - MITES

This test allows you to check for a specific allergy (IgE) response to individual dust and storage mites. Mites are microscopic creatures found in house dust and in stored food and grain, and they are one of the most common causes of year-round allergy symptoms such as sneezing, a runny or blocked nose, itchy eyes, and in some people asthma symptoms. House dust mite allergy in particular is very common. You can select the individual mites you wish to test for from the list below.

How it works

An important note on interpretation

This test measures the allergy (IgE) antibody response to a substance. A positive result indicates sensitisation, meaning your immune system has produced antibodies, but it is always interpreted alongside your symptoms. A positive result that matches your symptoms is more meaningful than one on its own. Mites are closely related and their allergens cross-react, so it is common to test positive to several at once. Any results are best discussed with your GP or an allergy specialist, who can consider them alongside your history and advise on treatment.

Why it matters

Dust mites are one of the most common causes of persistent, year-round allergy and a frequent trigger for asthma. Identifying whether you react to them can help confirm the cause of your symptoms and guide management, from measures to reduce mite exposure in the home to appropriate medication and, in some cases, longer-term treatments such as immunotherapy. Understanding your specific sensitivities is a useful step towards better control of your symptoms.
