The NSE Blood Test measures neuron-specific enolase (NSE), an enzyme found primarily in neurons and neuroendocrine cells. It is used as a tumour marker to support the investigation and monitoring of neuroendocrine tumours, small cell lung cancer, neuroblastoma, and other NSE-secreting malignancies. This test is suitable for patients who have been referred by their clinician for suspected neuroendocrine disease, or for those undergoing treatment monitoring where NSE provides valuable information about disease activity.

Why it matters
NSE can be elevated in certain neuroendocrine tumours and small cell lung cancer, making it a useful tool for clinicians assessing disease presence, treatment response, or recurrence. Early and accurate monitoring can help guide timely clinical decisions and improve patient outcomes.
