Paediatric Profile
A complete health picture for your growing child.
The Paediatric Profile is a comprehensive blood panel designed specifically for children and young people. It provides a broad overview of a child's general health by assessing blood cells, liver and kidney function, bone health, nutrition, and markers of inflammation or allergy. It is suitable for investigating unexplained symptoms such as tiredness, poor growth, recurrent infections, or abdominal discomfort, and for routine health monitoring in children with known conditions.
The panel uses a simple blood sample, analysed using standard haematology and clinical chemistry techniques, with specific allergy testing performed by immunoassay.
Full Blood Count
A full blood count examines the three main cell types in the blood, giving a detailed picture of a child's overall health.
- Red blood cells: haemoglobin, red cell count, haematocrit, and red cell indices (MCV, MCH, MCHC) to screen for anaemia
- White blood cells: total white cell count and differential (neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils) to assess immune function and detect infection or inflammation
- Platelets: platelet count to assess clotting ability
Liver Function
These markers assess liver health and bile flow.
- Alanine transaminase (ALT)
- Aspartate transaminase (AST)
- Alkaline phosphatase (ALP)
- Gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT)
- Bilirubin total
- Total protein
Kidney Function
These markers evaluate how well the kidneys are filtering waste.
- Creatinine
- Urea
Bone Health and Minerals
These markers help assess bone development and mineral balance, which are particularly important during childhood growth.
- Calcium
- Inorganic phosphate
Nutrition and Metabolism
These markers provide insight into nutritional status and metabolic health.
- Ferritin (iron stores)
- Glucose
- Total cholesterol
- Uric acid
Electrolytes
These markers help assess fluid balance and nerve and muscle function.
- Sodium
- Potassium
Inflammation and Allergy
These markers screen for inflammation and allergic sensitivity.
- C-reactive protein (CRP)
- Immunoglobulin E (IgE)
Why it matters
Children's health concerns can be subtle and difficult to interpret from symptoms alone. This profile gives parents and clinicians a clear, objective picture across multiple body systems in a single test, helping to identify nutritional deficiencies such as low iron, detect underlying liver, kidney, or metabolic issues, and flag inflammation or allergy. Early insight supports timely, appropriate care and gives families reassurance about their child's development and wellbeing.

No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or Consultant.
Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
