Pre-Marriage 2
Know your shared health story before you say 'I do'.
The Pre-Marriage 2 profile is a comprehensive premarital screening panel designed for couples preparing to marry who wish to understand their shared health picture before starting a life together. It combines blood group and genotype testing with infectious disease screening, metabolic assessment, and immunity checks, giving both partners the information they need to make informed decisions about their future and that of any children they may have. All analyses are carried out on a simple blood sample using standard laboratory techniques including serological assays, haemoglobin electrophoresis, and automated haematology profiling.
Blood Group & Type
- ABO group and Rh (D) type: establishes your blood group for compatibility awareness, transfusion records, and pregnancy planning, including the risk of Rh incompatibility between mother and baby.
Haemoglobin Electrophoresis (Genotype)
- Sickle cell screening: identifies carriage of the sickle cell gene (HbS) or sickle cell disease.
- Beta thalassaemia screening: detects beta thalassaemia trait or disease.
- Together, these results reveal your haemoglobin genotype and the risk of passing an inherited blood disorder to your children if both partners are carriers.
Blood Sugar
- HbA1c: reflects average blood glucose over the previous two to three months, screening for prediabetes and diabetes, which can affect fertility, pregnancy outcomes, and long-term health.
HIV Screening
- HIV antibody (Ab) and HIV antigen (Ag): combined fourth-generation screening for HIV infection, enabling early detection and access to care.
Hepatitis B & C Screening
- Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg): indicates current hepatitis B infection.
- Hepatitis B core antibody (HBcAb): indicates past or present hepatitis B exposure.
- Hepatitis C antibody (HCV Ab): screens for hepatitis C infection.
- These results help protect both partners and inform any need for vaccination, monitoring, or treatment.
Syphilis Screening
- Syphilis antibody (anti-treponemal): screens for syphilis infection, which is easily treatable when detected early and can otherwise affect pregnancy and newborn health.
Rubella Screening
- Rubella antibodies (IgM/IgG): determines whether you are immune to rubella. Non-immune women can be vaccinated before pregnancy, protecting the baby from congenital rubella syndrome.
Complete Blood Count
- White blood cells (WBCs): screens for infection, inflammation, and certain blood disorders.
- Red blood cells (RBCs): assesses for anaemia and other red cell abnormalities.
- Platelets (PLTs): evaluates clotting capacity and screens for platelet disorders.
Why it matters
Marriage brings two health histories together, and some conditions only become relevant when considered as a couple. Knowing your blood groups and genotypes allows you to understand the risk of haemolytic disease of the newborn and inherited blood disorders such as sickle cell disease and thalassaemia in your future children. Screening for HIV, hepatitis B and C, and syphilis supports early diagnosis and treatment, protects your partner, and reduces the risk of transmission during pregnancy. Rubella immunity testing identifies women who would benefit from vaccination before conceiving, and HbA1c and full blood count results provide a baseline picture of metabolic and general health. Together, these results empower couples to plan ahead with clarity, seek timely medical advice, and start married life informed and prepared.
