Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) Syphilis Test
Clear, confidential syphilis screening with rapid peace of mind.
The Rapid Plasma Reagin (RPR) test is a screening blood test for syphilis, a common bacterial sexually transmitted infection. It is suitable for anyone who has had unprotected sex, a new sexual partner, or concerns about exposure, and for routine sexual health screening. It may also be requested when symptoms such as a painless genital ulcer or rash are present, or as part of antenatal care. A simple blood sample is taken in the clinic, and results are reported confidentially.
Marker included
- Rapid plasma reagin (RPR): screens for antibodies associated with syphilis infection, helping to identify whether further confirmatory testing is needed.
Why it matters
Syphilis can be silent for long periods and, if left untreated, may lead to serious complications affecting the heart, brain, and other organs. Early detection allows prompt treatment and helps prevent transmission to partners or, in pregnancy, to the baby. A negative result is reassuring, while a positive result guides your clinician to arrange confirmatory testing and appropriate care.

No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or consultant.
Always discuss your test results, especially any abnormal results, with your GP, who can interpret them in the context of your medical history and overall health.
