Reticulin IgA Antibody Test | Coeliac Disease
Clarify your coeliac risk with a targeted antibody check.
The Reticulin IgA Antibody Test is a focused blood test used to screen for coeliac disease, an autoimmune condition triggered by gluten that damages the small intestine. It is most appropriate for individuals who have persistent digestive symptoms (such as bloating, diarrhoea, or abdominal pain), unexplained fatigue, iron deficiency, or a family history of coeliac disease. It may also be requested when other coeliac markers are inconclusive or as part of a broader coeliac assessment. This test is not intended for monitoring known coeliac disease or for individuals already following a gluten-free diet, as these factors can affect antibody levels.
Marker included
- Reticulin IgA Antibody (ARA IgA): screens for IgA-class antibodies directed against reticulin, a connective tissue protein. The presence of these antibodies can support a suspicion of coeliac disease, although they are less specific than other coeliac antibodies and are typically interpreted alongside clinical history and additional tests.
Why it matters
Coeliac disease is common and often underdiagnosed. Identifying raised reticulin IgA antibodies can prompt further investigation, helping to confirm or exclude coeliac disease and guide appropriate dietary and clinical management. Early detection reduces the risk of long-term complications such as nutritional deficiencies and intestinal damage.

No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
Important Clinical Information:
This test is a screening tool to monitor and support your overall health. It does not replace your GP or consultant.
