The SCC Antigen Blood Test measures squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCC-Ag) in the bloodstream. This tumour marker is used alongside clinical assessment and imaging to support the monitoring of squamous cell carcinomas, including those affecting the cervix, head and neck, lung, oesophagus, and skin. It is not a screening test for the general population, but it can be valuable for tracking disease progression, treatment response, and possible recurrence in patients with a known diagnosis.
The test is performed on a simple blood sample using an immunoassay technique. Results are interpreted by your doctor in the context of your medical history, examination findings, and any imaging or biopsy results.
