STI PCR II

This test uses polymerase chain reaction (PCR) to detect the genetic material of seven sexually transmitted infection (STI) pathogens from a single sample. PCR is a highly sensitive and specific molecular technique that identifies the DNA of these organisms, often before symptoms appear and earlier than culture-based methods. It is suitable for anyone who is sexually active and wants a comprehensive STI screen, particularly those with symptoms such as unusual discharge, burning on urination, pelvic discomfort, or those who have had a new or multiple partners. It is also valuable for confirming clearance after treatment.

The panel screens for the following organisms:

Bacterial pathogens
- Chlamydia trachomatis (CT)
- Neisseria gonorrhoeae (NG)
- Mycoplasma genitalium (MG)
- Mycoplasma hominis (MH)

Other pathogens
- Ureaplasma urealyticum (UU)
- Ureaplasma parvum (UP)
- Trichomonas vaginalis (TV)

Each pathogen is detected by specific PCR amplification, allowing simultaneous identification of multiple infections. This is particularly important because co-infections are common and may require different treatment approaches.

Why it matters
Many STIs can be present without noticeable symptoms, yet if left untreated they can lead to serious complications including pelvic inflammatory disease, infertility, ectopic pregnancy, and increased risk of HIV transmission. Early detection through accurate PCR testing enables prompt treatment, reduces onward transmission, and helps prevent long-term health consequences for you and your partners.

No special preparation required.

For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
