Viral Early Detection

The Viral Early Detection panel is a targeted molecular screen for three of the most clinically significant blood-borne viruses: hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV. It is designed for people who need a definitive answer soon after a potential exposure, when antibody-based testing may still be silent, and for those who require documented viral status for occupational health, travel, insurance or peace of mind.
Each virus is detected directly rather than indirectly. Using polymerase chain reaction (PCR), the test amplifies and identifies viral genetic material (RNA or DNA) present in a simple blood sample. Because it looks for the virus itself, PCR can return a positive result within days of infection, often before the immune system has produced detectable antibodies and well before symptoms appear. This makes it the method of choice for early detection and for confirming active infection.
Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis B virus DNA (HBV PCR): detects active hepatitis B viral genetic material, indicating current infection and potential infectivity.
Hepatitis C
- Hepatitis C virus RNA (HCV PCR): detects active hepatitis C viral genetic material, distinguishing current infection from past, cleared exposure.
HIV
- Human immunodeficiency virus RNA (HIV PCR): detects HIV viral genetic material directly, enabling very early diagnosis after exposure.
Why it matters
Hepatitis B, hepatitis C and HIV can all be present for years without obvious symptoms, yet each is manageable, and in the case of hepatitis C often curable, when identified early. Early detection protects your own long-term health by allowing timely monitoring and treatment, and it protects others by breaking chains of transmission. A single, validated PCR panel gives you clarity when it matters most: before antibodies would show, before symptoms would prompt a test, and before uncertainty takes hold.

No special preparation required.
For blood tests, we recommend drinking plenty of water beforehand to ensure smooth sample collection. If you are taking any regular medication, continue to do so unless advised otherwise by your doctor.
