Viral Screen I

Viral Screen I is a confidential blood test that checks for three of the most common blood-borne viral infections: hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV. It is suitable for anyone who wants a clear picture of their viral status, whether you are starting a new relationship, planning a pregnancy, preparing for a medical or dental procedure, travelling or working abroad, or simply taking control of your sexual health. The test uses a simple blood sample, analysed using sensitive antibody and antigen assays to detect current or past infection.

What the test screens for

Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBs Ag): detects the presence of the hepatitis B virus, indicating current infection.

Hepatitis C
- Hepatitis C antibody (HCV Ab): detects antibodies produced by the immune system in response to hepatitis C, indicating past or current infection.

HIV
- HIV antibody and p24 antigen (HIV Ab + p24 Ag): detects both antibodies to HIV and the p24 viral antigen, allowing earlier detection of infection than antibody testing alone.

Why it matters

Hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV can all be present for years without causing any noticeable symptoms, yet they can have serious long-term effects on liver health and immune function if left undiagnosed. No special preparation required.
